Whenever I mow the lawn it seem to attract numbers of birds eating either the left over mowing or bugs etc revealed by the process. The most numerous species varies from time to time but is currently Crimson Rosellas (recently it was Australian King Parrot, but they seem to have moved on).
The flock has been as large as 20 birds. It is usually made up mainly of juvenile birds but with one or two adults as creche-minders.Red-browed Finches are often participants in these feeding flocks, sometimes mob-handed with up to 40 birds in the flock.
An unusual visitor close to the house was a White-headed Pigeon which came and walked along the deck early on the morning of 9 August. (The fuzziness of the image is because it was taken through a condensation enhanced (not) glass door).
House sparrows also get in on the act.
Satin Bowerbirds are very common (there is a reason everyone nets their fruit and vegetables) but usually 'green birds'. So it was nice to score a visit from a full-on adult male yesterday. Photos taken through double glazing and the glass on the deck!
