No licorice was harmed in making this blogpost. My activities covered a range of things today and here are the highlights.
A Koala was having a munch a little down the road from home.
Fortunately there was a small branch behind it when it heard about Barilaros anicsThe Koala was in a Reserve and looking down at the ground I found Solanum prinophyllum (Forest Nightshade for which I have been looking for a while. As the book says it has spines on the leaves!
Looking down at the Inlet a flotilla of Pelicans sailed past
A Figbird was located in the usual large Fig tree after having been sighted by another observer close to the Koala. The photo is crap, but is good enough to support the ID.
A slightly clearer shot.
In the afternoon we walked along the Western edge of the poo pits plantation and then down towards the Betka River.
Frances thought this looked like a Freesia but I can work out what an exotic bulb is doing out here. Did a passing bird drop one? (We also found some clay pigeons so the littering classes are also evident out here: perhaps they tried a Freesia bulb in the 12 gauge?)
There were LOT of common orchids particularly the stretch under the powerlines. My order of magnitude estimates are 20 Diuris pardina (largely 'over'); 50 Prasophyllum elatum; .....
... 200+ Glossodia major and 1-2,000 small pink Caladenia sp (I suspect C. alata; C. carnea; C. catenata; and C. fuscata were all present).
