The overall summary of the month was "not that Summery". Very wet thanks mainly to an event on 9th to 11th of the month and overall quite cool - but with a sting in the tip of the tail.
I shall do a summary of the weather of 2021 in the near future.
Rain
Apart from the fact that this was the wettest December recorded in the area (by about 40 mm) the event above was notable for the variability of the rain across sites. My Nylex is continuing to record close to the same amount as my weather station, although it appears the equivalent of about 1mm of rain hangs up on the sides of the gauge while rain is falling.
Here is the comparison with last year and the median.
We ended the year with the 3rd highest fall: the event in the link gave the YTD line a marked up tick.Although I didn't think it rained particularly heavily, 2 of the hourly rates on the 9th were the 33rd and 42 heaviest rates I have recorded (out of 25,243 records). Note the differing vertical scales in this chart.
Temperatures
The overall anomaly ended up at +0.7C. The development of that value through the month is shown in the following chart.
A comparison of BoM extremes with their long term average shows how the maximum was mostly low (with a couple of breakouts and a sting in the tail) while minima fluctuated close to the average. A similar pattern - but with a more pronounced sting - is shown by my WS.
Minimum temperatures
Overall, slightly below average.
Maximum temperatures
Close to average, and slightly above last year
Humidity
The daily humidity readings showed relatively little variation between the morning and afternoon values until the North winds arrived in the last couple of days. The reading of 34% on 31 December was the 13th lowest afternoon humidity reading (of ~1000 readings).
The mean morning reading was well above average (but not the truncated axis).Ditto for the afternoon reading
Wind
The daily wind runs show a fairly calm month apart from the 6th, which was the 7th longest run (of 1054) I have recorded.
Overall well below the three year average.
