A rather cool and damp month.
Rain
Rain was particularly interesting this month as the amount recorded by BoM (141 mm) was noticeably higher than at our house(110mm). I have adapted the WS values to a day starting at 0900 (grrr ...)
I wondered if this indicated an issue with my weather station (WS) but:
- later in the month we recorded more at home than did BoM; and
- having got a Nylex conventional gauge for home, it recorded the same amount as the WS.
So I am concluding that somehow the WS was shadowed from the main event. I shall continue to monitor the situation with the Nylex.
Even with the lower amount recorded by my WS, November this year was well above last year and the median fall (and although not plotted above the average - mean - fall).
The year to date fall is 1061mm, or 129% of the median YTD fall. Although we are getting close to the end of the year it is still interesting to project the annual total, which works out to 1151mm. Progress of the prorata estimate through the year is shown below. The actual fall YTD is greater than 38 of the 44 years for which there are records for 'mainland' Mallacoota and 5 of the years with higher falls are prior to 1992.
Temperatures
The difference between the average temperature for the month and the long term average resolves to -0.59C. This is a balance between a few warm days early in the month and a prolonged cool spell in the middle.
This is shown in the chart of actual and average extrema for the date.A similar pattern is shown by WS values.
Minimum temperatures
The average minimum temperature for the month at my WS was 12.51C. This is slightly above average but well below last year's value. The minimum was above average on 14 days: some were very much above average while most of the below average values were quite close to the norm.
Maximum temperatures
The average maximum was 20.3C well below average last years value. This is not surprising with 20 days having a below average maximum.
Humidity
The noticeable aspect of humidity was the similarity of values between the 0900 and 1500 readings from my WS. The key point here is the high rH in the afternoon: not surprising given the amount of rain and number of rain days, with non-trivial falls on 15 days.
The 0900 reading was well above average and 2020.The 1500 reading was even more above expectations.
Wind
The average daily wind run (124km) was below the value for last year and the average of the 3 years for which I have WS readings.
Looking at the daily readings only 3 days were draughty and the majority of days in November 2021 were less windy than the previous 2 years.
