Powerlines are excellent

In past years the area under the powerlines opposite Karbeethong Rd has been excellent for sun orchids.  As it has been burnt and subject to a lot of traffic working on the powerlines; clearing (allegedly) hazardous trees and installing NBN cabling I was not optimistic for this year.

Oh ye of little faith!   The Footmobiles went there yesterday (13 October) and it was excellent.  We found 3 species of Sun Orchid - 2 in huge numbers - and a 4th had been in flower a day or so earlier.

Thelymitra ixioides (Spotted Sun Orchid)

An unusual white Sun Orchid - possibly a colour form of the above?
Thelymitra aristata (Great Sun Orchid) was in large numbers further up the track.
A single T. carnea (pink Sun Orchid) was spotted near Genoa Rd.
A single "Beardie" Calochilus paludosus also near the Genoa Rd.
Caleana major (Large Flying Duck Orchid were evident all along the track.
There were a good number of leek orchids (Prasophylm sp.) in the upper parts of the track but they were either not yet open or gone over, so not idetified to species.

An unidentified Lily.
Ditto Melaleuca/Callistemon
